Mutare – The wait for a substantive town clerk for the City of Mutare is over!
Mayor Simon Chabuka has confirmed in a telephone interview with Chipinge Times that Kumbirai Madanhi who has been serving under the Ruwa Local Board has been appointed Mutare town clerk.
“The due process was done and communication was sent to us that Madanhi was the successful candidate. It is only the Local Government Board that recommends the successful candidate. Definitely he will be joining us,” Mayor Chabuka highlighted.
He could not be drawn to comment on the exact month in which Madanhi will assume duty in Mutare.
Mayor Chabuka’s confirmation put to rest speculations that councillors at Civic Centre were not willing to abide by the Local Government Board’s recommendation for Madanhi.
Since the death of former town clerk Joshua Maligwa in January 2021, former Health director Dr Anthony Mutara has been acting but corruption allegations caught up with him and he immediately resigned.
Dr Mutara was later absolved of any wrongdoing by a competent court. His successor in an acting capacity, Engineer Tinashe Mtetwa was later relieved of his duties for being absent from work. Currently Finance Director Blessing Chafesuka is acting.
