MASVINGO-The provincial Spelling Bee competitions are slated for May 26, 2023, at Charles Austin Theatre, Masvingo.
Masvingo Region Program Coordinator Charles Poterai confirmed the development to the Mirror.
He said the nationals will be held in Harare at a later date.
“The Regional Spelling Bee competitions are open to scholars between 9-16 years, and the Masvingo region competitions are slated for May 26, 2023, at Charles Austin Theatre.
“Over 500 students have already registered to participate. I encourage students from all walks of life to participate in this edition as it exposes them to new vocabulary. This will boost their confidence as well allow them to network,” said Poterai.
Students are given words to spell, and the one with the most points wins the competition.
Winners of the regional competition stand a chance to win various prizes, including scholarships and participation at the national competitions and at the Africa Spelling Bee competitions set to be held in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, where the winners will win tickets to the International Spelling Bee Competitions to be held in the United States of America (USA).
The past two editions were held virtually owing to COVID-19.
