Southern Rocks back at Masvingo Sports Club at last

GRAEME NISH

MASVINGO-For local cricket fans Masvingo Sports Club is the place to be over the next few days as the Southern Rocks cricket team takes on Matabeleland Tuskers today (Friday) in a limited over one day game having played them earlier in the week on Wednesday. Next week they play back to back one day matches against the Mashonaland Eagles on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Rocks will be hoping to cement their place at the top of the Pro 50 championship log having beaten the Midwest Rhinos in two matches last week played at KweKwe Sports Club. However, the Tuskers are also in good form having beaten the Mashonaland Eagles twice last week in Mutare meaning they share top spot on the log and giving added spice to their match up with the Rocks.
The Rocks will be looking to continued good performances from the likes of Cephas Zhuwao; Innocent and Roy Kaia; Sikander Raza and Blessing Muzarabani. The Tuskers boast of the likes of Sean Williams; Craig Ervine; Luke Jongwe and Brian Chari in their line up making the outcome a difficult one to predict.
In the four day Logan Cup matches played earlier this month the Rocks have not fared very well and find themselves anchoring the log with the Rhinos, 15 points behind log leaders, the Tuskers, with the Eagles and the Mountaineers in second and third places respectively.
Entrance to the games is free and hopefully, despite them being week day fixtures, a good crowd should come in and watch top class cricket in the City as this will be the first time in eight years.
