MASVINGO – SolidarMed has donated a critical oxygen concentrator valued at US$1 300 to the city’s sole Covid19 clinic, Rujeko Isolation Centre.

In addition, the medical supplies company handed over a drug trolley worth US$500 to the centre.

The concentrator was handed over to Masvingo Mayor Collen Maboke by SolidarMed Non-Communicable Diseases Project Manager Alvern Mutengerere at the Civic Centre yesterday.

The centre that has 10 beds has been operating without an oxygen concentrator hence struggled to supply the much needed oxygen to patients.

Mutengerere said they have been assisting other major hospitals in Masvingo Province with equipment necessary to help in the fight against Covid-19.

“We have donated different medical equipment to Chiredzi, Zaka and other hospitals in the province that are fighting Covid-19. Our main goal is for hospitals to be well prepared to tackle covid-19 cases and prevent loss of life,” said Mutengerere who is a medical doctor.

An oxygen concentrator is a machine that filters the surrounding air and compresses it to the required density to supply oxygen to patients with breathing difficulties during Covid-19. https://masvingomirror.com
