MASVINGO-The Zimbabwe National Council for the Welfare of Children (ZNCWC) and Save the Children organisation have trained social workers in Masvingo on child rights and child safeguarding.
The one day training workshop was at Chevron, a Regency Group Hotel and attended by social workers from the province’s seven districts.
ZNCWC National Director Taylor Nyanhete said children must be protected against any form of abuse, harassment, discrimination and exploitation. ZNCWC is an umbrella body for children rights organisations in the country.
“The workshop mainly focused on childcare and their protection from any forms of harm and sexual abuse. We have discussed on how our staff can safeguard children and how vulnerable children can be assisted in different communities. The Welfare of children is our concern and people must report any case of child abuse in their communities,” he said.
Some of the discussed issues are children’s involvement in politics and early marriages.
