MASVINGO – Masvingo Provincial Education Director Shylatte Mhike is inviting stakeholders to contribute financially towards the PED’s health and wellness open tournament 2023.The tournament has the aim of eradicating drug and substance abuse, bullying and other disruptive behaviors through sport. The district competitions are underway today (Friday) with the provincial tournament set for March 27, 2023 at Mucheke Stadium.

Masvingo Provincial Schools Inspector Physical Education and Culture, Fredrick Matavikwa confirmed the development to The Mirror.He said the games will also serve to select the team that will represent the province at the national tourney.“The tournaments anti-bullying and drug abuse message targets all primary and secondary pupils in the province and beyond. Soccer and netball teams are drawn from the seven districts.

First knock-out stage is to be held Friday 17, March, 2023 with the finals going to be held at Mucheke stadium. A total of 16 soccer teams and 16 netball teams will battle it out for the championship on 27 March 2023. “The tournament was influenced by rising incidence of bullying, drug and substances abuse in our institutions across the province and beyond is a disturbing development. The security of our pupils is threatened by disruptive behaviours. The PED and her council are convinced there is urgent need to add a voice in the fight against bullying, drug and substances abuses through a tournament dubbed: ‘THE PEDS HEALTH AND WELLNESS TOURNAMENT’,” said Matavikwa.
