Silveira high wins Bishop’s Trophy

MASVINGO – Silveira High School is the overall winner of the 2024 Masvingo Roman Catholic Diocese run schools games held at Gokomere from Friday – Saturday.
The school won the Bishop’s Trophy after scooping five gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
The Catholic Schools Association (CASA) competitions are held annually. The trophy was at Mukaro High after it dominated the 2023 edition.
Hosts, Gokomere came second with four gold and two silver medals followed by Berejena after securing three gold, two silver and a bronze medal.
Berejena also scooped gold in soccer and its player Praise Chokuda was voted best player. Gloria Nyengera from Berejena was the best player in Netball. They both walked away with US$15 prize money each courtesy of The Mirror.

The edition ran under the theme: Enlarge the Space of Your Tent.
Masvingo Diocese Education Secretary, Father Samson Mutsvanga was the guest of honor.
Silveira scooped gold in the boys and girls handball categories, boys’ and girls’ tennis and girls’ volleyball.
Gokomere won gold in both volleyball categories, girls’ chess and choir. Berejena won gold in darts, netball and soccer.
Silveira head Stern Mutsambiwa said it was a good achievement for the school to win the Bishop’s Trophy.
“We are very happy as the school for winning the award and as you see we were competing with the best schools in all disciplines,” he said.
Chokuda told The Mirror that he was very happy to be selected as the best soccer player.
“I am happy with this achievement and I win for my school and my teammates because we worked as a team to win the trophy,” he said.
