Silveira High tops Catholic O level results

MASVINGO – Silveira High has the best November 2023 O Level results for all Roman Catholic Church run schools in Masvingo Province. 

This is according to analysis availed to The Mirror by the church’s Educational Secretary Fr Samson Mutsvanga.

Silveira has 52 pupils who got 5As’ and above and the school had an impressive 98.43% pass rate which slightly decreased by 0.51% from 98.94% in 2022. The school’s top student had 12As, 4Bs and a C. The Sternly Mutsambiwa headed Silveira had 191 candidates and only three failed to pass five subjects.  

Mukaro High which scooped first place last year is second basing on either pass rate or the number of pupils with 5As and above with an impressive 97.28%. The Marjorie Marumanadzo headed school has seven more candidates scoring 5As and above than Silveira with 59 students. The best student had 11As. 

The Gutu based school had 77 pupils who scored 5As and above in 2022. A total 183 candidates wrote the exams and five failed to pass five subjects. The pass rate fell by 1.67% from 98.95 % in 2022. 

St Anthony’s is third with an 86.1% pass rate. The school, however, has 66 students, the highest for any Catholic school scoring 5As and above. The Jorum Mawana headed school had 259 candidates and the best student had 11As.  The school’s pass rate fell 1.85% from 98.95% in 2022. 

Yesteryear power house, Gokomere continues to slumber with only 12 candidates scoring 5As and above. The school’s pass rate is consistently falling. Gokomere’s pass rate was 89.5 % in 2021 and dropped to 85.4% the next year. It has further tumbled to 83.6 %. 

The Acquionis Mazhunga headed school has 36 of its 219 candidates who did not pass five subjects. The best student had 11As.

Mutero is fifth with a 79% pas rate and no student managing to score 5As and above. The best student had 4As, 2Bs and 2Cs. The school had 140 candidates and 30 failed to pass five subjects. 

The school’s pass rate is steadily improving having increased 57.4% in 2021 to 60 % the next year. 

Berejena High is sixth with a 65.8% pass rate and eight of its 155 candidates scoring 5As and above. The pass rate increased by 5.8% from 60% in 2022. The George Gopo headed school has 53 students who failed to pass five subjects. The school’s best student has 11As.

Nyaningwe High pass rate jumped by nearly 20% from 43.8% in 2021 to 62.2% in 2022. The school is seventh with nine of its 143 candidates scoring 5As and above. The head at Nyaningwe is Chamuka. The school’s best student 9As and 2Bs. 

Shingirirai College has a 58.1% pass rate and two of its 114 candidates who scored 5As and above. The pass rate fell by 6.3% from 64.4% in 2021. The best student had 8As and 4Bs.

St Mary’s has a 42.3% pass rate with four of its 149 candidates scoring 5As and above. The school’s best student outperformed students from most schools with 12As and 2Bs.
