BIKITA-The Roman Catholic-run, Silveira High conducted a thanksgiving mass on Wednesday following outstanding academic results in the 2021 O and A Level Zimsec results.
Teachers and ancillary staff were also given undisclosed cash prizes for the achievement.
Silveira which is under a new head, Stern Mutsambiwa had the best O Level results at 96.6% pass rate and the second best A Level results at 99,1% in Masvingo Province. It was overall the best high school in the province.
The mass was graced by Bishop Michael Dickson Bhasera who oversees Masvingo Diocese.
Masvingo Vicar General Fr Walter Nyatsanza applauded Mutsambiwa for taking Silveira to the top. Ironically Mutsambiwa was demoted as a Grade E3 head to a Grade E2 deputy head in 2017 and removed from Gokomere High. He was initially moved to Mutero but lobbying by the church saw him being made the acting head at Silveira.
He has since then displaced schools like Gokomere, Pamushana and Ndarama at the top.
Father Nyatsanza hailed Mutsambiwa for excelling and taking Silveira to the top of the province.
“Silveira has become the academic powerhouse of the province. We are proud of Mr Mutsambiwa’s leadership skills that took Silveira to the top despite the odds of the COVID 19 pandemic,” said Nyatsanza.
Speaking on behalf of the Bikita District Schools’ Inspector, Arleta Makomeke said her office was proud of Silveira for putting the district on the map.
She applauded the teachers and the students for their teamwork which has made the school to attain quality results.
“I appreciate the team work from the staff and the commitment from the learners. It is one important ingredient for quality results,” said Makomeke.
The most outstanding students are Cadet Dhliwayo who attained 16As at ‘O’ level and Pauline Murwisi who got 23 points at ‘A’ level. The students were given cash prizes.
Silveira deputy head, Zedi Mavheneka said they avoided awards like the best teacher because the results are all about team work that includes both the teaching and the ancillary staff.
Father Emmanuel Zengeya who gave the sermon said Silveira came tops because of the Catholic ethos that puts everything in God’s hands and a belief in prosperity even in the face of adversity.https://masvingomirror.com/
