Silobela social soccer tourney leaves 1 dead

GOKWE – A social soccer tournament between Gobo and Donsa teams played at Matsikidze Village under Chief Gobo in Silobela ended in tragedy when a villager was killed with a machete following disagreements that happened on the field of play on Sunday.
The Gobo team was at home and the match was abandoned after fans invaded the field. During the night the team from Donsa area was mobilized and returned armed with machetes at around 2am and harassed people in Matsikidze Village.
They allegedly attacked and killed Samson Paradza(49) whilst his friend Samuel Shoko(49) was left for dead.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Insp Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident. Police has since arrested Mkhululi Ndlovu (24) Lungile Nyoni (25), Gazimulo Ndlondlo (18) and Mthabisi Moyo (24) all of Sitemba Village under Chief Malisa, Silobela.
Thobile Nyoni (23), Butholezwe Ncube (25) Sitemba Chief Malisa, Silobela and Thikiza Nyoni (26) Donsa 1 Chief Malisa, Silobela are still at large.
“We confirm two cases – a murder and an attempted murder where one person died and another one seriously injured when they were attacked by a group of eight people with axes and machetes,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Villagers managed to apprehend Mbekezela Lunga who was among the assailants and handed him to the police.
