MIDLANDS BUREAU CHIEF

SILOBELA– Six armed robbers pounced on a Mukuru outlet in Silobela and got away with US$1 800, ZAR7 800 and two cell phones, Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko has confirmed.

The robbers who are still at large pounced on the outlet on Tuesday last week and three of them were armed with pistols.

Mahoko said the robbers pretended to be clients and after getting into the booth, three of them produced pistols and ordered everyone to lie on the ground before handcuffing a cashier and a security guard and stealing the money.

The gang then sped away in an unregistered Toyota Wish towards Nkayi. Police is appealing to information that can lead to the arrest of armed robbers.

“I can confirm receipt of a case of armed robbery by a six member gang that masqueraded as genuine clients and pounced at a Silobela Mukuru money transfer outlet.

“They joined a queue pretending to be waiting for their turn to be served and three of them entered the booth before producing pistols. They ordered all clients in the booth to lie down. The gang threatened to shoot the cashier before ordering him to surrender all the money and cell phones,” he said.

“The gang handcuffed both the security guard and the cashier, they ransacked the booth and took all the money amounting to US$1 800 and ZAR7 800 before speeding off towards Nkayi using an unregistered Toyota Wish ,” he said.
