Shurugwi woman threatens suicide over groceries

SHURUGWI – A Shurugwi woman threatened to commit suicide last Friday after her polygamous husband brought foodstuffs and a bucket for the first wife who was in remand for burning the latter’s thatched hut.
Netsai Majoni (47) threatened to throw herself onto vehicles along the Zvishavane – Shurugwi Highway at Shurugwi Magistrates Court where Dambudzo Tinago (34) was appearing facing malicious damage to property charges.
Tinago was in remand prison with her two months old child.
Majoni who was distraught alleged that the husband has neglected her welfare and he has not bought her food while he is pampering his Tinago who also burnt her thatched bedroom.
Tinago had been remanded in custody since July 28, when she allegedly burnt the hut. Majoni was refrained from committing suicide by the husband.
Circumstances are that Taurai Muperi was sleeping in Tinago’s bedroom and he left and went to Majoni’s bedroom around midnight.
This angered Tinago who followed to Majoni’s hut, locked the door from outside and set the room ablaze.
Tinago was arrested and spent the weekend in remand prison with her two months old child.
The value of the destroyed property is US$ 323.
Magistrate Percy Mukumba who presided over the case gave Tinago a wholly suspended on condition that she restiutes Majoni S$323.
