Shurugwi minor kills brother over walking stick

SHURUGWI – A 17-year-old minor has been arrested after he allegedly struck and killed his brother with a glowing log over a missing walking stick.
The minor from Bound Farm in Shurugwi who cannot be named for ethical reasons appeared before Shurugwi magistrate Sithabile Zungula facing murder charges.
He was remanded in prison to allow vetting of his age by a doctor since he did not have a birth certificate.
Prosecutor Pride Gomera said on February 15, 2024 at 9pm at Outward Farm, Malvin Matsvimbo the deceased was drinking beer in the company of Morgan Matsvimbo who is his father and also father of the accused.
A misunderstanding arose between Morgan and Malvin on the whereabouts of Morgan’s walking stick.
Malvin pushed Morgan and his young brother took a glowing log from the fire and struck Malvin once on the right side of the head and he fell to the ground. Morgan took Malvin to Lawrence Matsvimbo his young brother ‘s homestead where he sought assistance.
On February 16, 2024, Malvin was taken to Shurugwi District hospital where he was admitted. On February 18, 2024 he was transferred to Gweru General Hospital and later discharged and taken home.
He passed on, on February 20,2024. Post mortem showed that he suffered intracranial hemorrhage and skull fractures.
