SHURUGWI-Popular Shurugwi artisanal miner Chris Mahara has donated 1 000 litres of diesel to Tongogara Rural District Council (RDC) for road network rehabilitation.
His donation follows complaints from villagers in areas such as Dosert and Zhaugwe that they have become inaccessible, and they walk several kilometres to get transport.
TRDC council chairman Golden Kapeta confirmed the development to The Mirror. He said other miners and businesspeople should emulate Mahara.
“We applaud Mahara for his donation. He donated 1000 litres towards road rehabilitation. This is going to help us realise what is enshrined in the National Development Strategy (NDS) 1 blueprint,” said Kapeta.
Mahara said he is playing his part in supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He firmly believes in the mantra, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’.
“The President told us that we have to build our own country and not leave anyone behind. I donated the diesel towards the rehabilitation of the road network linking Dosert and Zhaugwe which has become inaccessible. The works should stretch to the Shurugwi- Zvishavane highway. I will continue assisting in any way that I can until we realise set developmental targets. We were given the right to mine the precious minerals. Everyone should benefit and through this rehabilitation program villagers are benefiting,” he said.
