Shurugwi man jailed 23 years for murder

GWERU – A Shurugwi man who murdered a fellow drinker at a club in Shurugwi by stabbing him in the eye, forehead and other body parts several times over a beer sharing dispute has been sentenced to 23 years in jail.
Tinashe Dycool Mawere (22) of Shurugwi was sentenced by High Court Judge, Justice Ngoni Nduna at the Circuit High Court in Gweru on Tuesday.
Mawere was convicted of stabbing the deceased multiple times, once in the back, left thigh, left shoulder, left eye, once on the forehead, twice on the abdomen and thrice on the right hand over a beer sharing dispute.
Justice Nduna convicted Mawere after a full trial.
The incident happened on May 22, 2023, at Taona Bottle Store, Chinho Business Centre, Shurugwi.
Circumstances are that the two were drinking beer at the bottle store when a misunderstanding arose over sharing beer.
Mawere pulled out an okapi knife and stabbed the victim multiple times once in the back, left thigh, left shoulder, left eye, once on the forehead, twice on the abdomen and thrice on the right hand.
The deceased succumbed to the injuries at the bar. A Police report was filed leading to Mawere’s arrest.
