SHURUGWI – Shurugwi Town Council (STC) will demolish all illegal structures in the CBD and in particular those at Pamumvuri Bus Terminus, according to a full council resolution made recently.

Councillor, Sam Mavhenyengwa, moved the motion after he expressed his displeasure over rampant construction of illegal structures in the city center.

“We want Shurugwi Town Council to grow fast in terms of business but allowing wooden and metal cabins which are all over the city is not one way we should do it. We no longer have order at Pamumvuri Bus Terminus and we need to redress the situation as a matter of urgency. We should instruct our security to demolish those illegal structures, they are not allowed,” said Mavhenyengwa.

Acting Town Secretary Francis Charamba assured councillors that the resolution will be followed through and council police will be sent to demolish the illegal structures.

“Give us a few days and we are going to demolish everything, we want to maintain a clean town. Pamumvuri should be upgraded just like other bus terminus like Kudzanai in Gweru,” said Charamba.

Zanu PF councillor Meka Zhowake said council should not just focus on the poor, but should look at business people like Solomon Matsa who has been failing to develop his land in the city center.
