SHURUGWI –Shurugwi chiefs have received 15 tonnes of maize each for the drought relief program, District Development Coordinator (DDC) Romeo Shangwa has said.
He said this during a meeting held with chiefs at his office’s boardroom last Friday. He said the three Shurugwi chiefs, Nhema, Banga and Ndanga have each received 15 tonnes of maize for the Zunde ra mambo program.
The less privileged, elderly, Persons with Disabilities, child headed families and the chronically ill will benefit from the program.
“President Mnangagwa declared the current El nino induced drought as a state of National disaster. The President went on to approve a Blitz Food Distribution Program to ensure that no one goes hungry as the country waits for the Zimbabwe livelihoods Assessment results.
“The Blitz will target the most vulnerable groups who include the elderly, persons with disabilities, orphans and child headed family and the chronically ill. The President as the national owner of Zunde Ramambo directed the decentralisation of grains to Chiefs,” said Shangwa.
Chief Nhema born Munetsi Ngere embraced the program and some of the maize should be distributed to headman for easy collection.
