MASVINGO – Isheunesu Chiwara, the man who was shot and seriously injured by a Policeman in Dewure East in Gutu on Sunday last week was finally transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital in a private car last Wednesday.
He was transferred from Gutu Mission Hospital in relative’s car because Gutu District’s biggest referral hospital has no ambulance. When the hospital has emergencies it begs for an ambulance from Gutu Rural Hospital and patients pay for the fuel.

Chiwara’s mother Stella Mahachi declined to comment on the transfer allegedly because publicity over the issue had ruffled a lot of feathers.

Bouncing ball

Masvingo Police would not talk to The Mirror over the issue which left Chiwara with a severe injury in the groin.
“You are not talking to Mahachi anymore. Your reports are not pleasing us,” said a man who answered Mahachi’s phone.

A doctor at Gutu Mission Hospital identified as Brian Takayidza is said to have insisted on Chiwara being transferred to Masvingo because of “too much publicity over the issue”.

One of Zimbabwe Lawyers’ for Human Rights lawyers in Masvingo, Martin Mureri said Police was not supposed to act in the manner they did more so because Chiwara was not an accused person.

Mureri said the State has an obligation to pay medical bills for the injured man including his ambulance bills. He said it was not proper that the family is now running around getting treatment for an innocent person shot and injured by the Police. https://masvingomirror.com
