MASVINGO – Masvingo community owned women’s soccer outfit, Shine Shine Queens which is competing in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One league is appealing for assistance in cash or kind for it to buy training equipment and to be able to fulfil fixtures.
Shine Shine Queens is second on the eight team league and is the only team from Masvingo Province competing in the league.
The club’s Secretary General Takaendesa Mavesere said the team is community owned and does not have a consistent sponsor and relies on contributions from well-wishers.
Mavesere said the club requires US$ 2 520 for home games and US$ 3 220 is required for away games. He said they are in need of training equipment like balls, boots, tracksuits, cones as well as sanitary wear for the girls.
“The team is as a result of a community initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing talent as well as empowering the girl child to overcome social ills as drug abuse and prostitution are associated with idleness,” said Mavesere.
