CHIPINGE-Magistrate Alfred Chinembiri has sentenced a habitual Chipinge thief with two previous theft convictions to four years in jail.
Tinashe Robert Tauya (19) of Gaza E suburb in Chipinge got a custodial sentence after he waylaid Prince Mlambo, manhandled him and stole US$150.
Prosecutor Isaac Tangwena told the court that the incident happened on March 30, 2023, at Night Club in Gaza O.
In 2020 and 2022, Tauya had theft convictions.
Magistrate Chinembiri suspended six months of the sentence on condition that Tauya restitutes Mlambo the stolen money.
According to the prosecutor, Tauya followed Mlambo outside the nightclub and manhandled him by the waist. He searched his pockets and went away with US$150. Mlambo suffered a cut on his left elbow.
He managed to track Tauya until he reached Chipinge Central Business District (CBD) and confronted him.
