MASVINGO- Police is urging property holders to safeguard their possessions by installing security systems and establishing night patrol committees.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said this as part of Masvingo ZRP festive season safety awareness campaign.

“Most people are travelling to churches, family gatherings or out of the country for the festive season. You should ensure that your homes have enough security bugler-bars, security lights and also alarm systems to avoid thieves breaking in.

“You should leave someone you trust at home or inform trusted neighbours when traveling. Robbers take notice of property owners’ absence and break in. There should be someone to monitor the lights at the homes,” he said.

He also urged commuters to board Government approved public service vehicles that abide by road regulations.

Dhewa said commuters risk losing their wares and money to robbers masquerading as legit transporters.

Some commuters are raped and murdered while some motorists flaunt speed limits and road regulations.

“We urge motorists not to speed and overload their vehicles. Passengers should avoid boarding private vehicles as they can be robbed, raped and even murdered,” he warned.
