Rwafa adjudged best farmer in Chikomba

CHIKOMBA —Solomina Rwafa a farmer from Manyene South in Chambara area was adjudged the best farmer at the just ended Chikomba District Agricultural show.
She received a plough and a harrow after harvesting six tonnes of maize and 20 she had a high yield of six tonnes of maize and 20 bags of groundnuts from her farm.
The show ran from Wednesday – Friday last week.
Rwafa was also adjudged best farmer in the crop section and horticulture and for being an educative farmer who knows the correct medicine for her livestock.
“I am honoured to be adjudged the best farmer of the year for Chikomba district. I urge fellow farmers to plant early and also to take farming as a business,” she said
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, fisheries, Water and Rural development Professor Obert Jiri was the Guest of Honour. Chikomba west legislator and Minister of Information, Communication, Technology Postal and Courier (ICT) Tatenda Mavetera also attended the show.
Several agro dealers and financial institutions as Farmer’s Choices, Farmshop, SeedCo, Kurima centre, Gain Cash and Carry and CBZ exhibited at the show.
Other farmers who won in different categories walked away with ploughs, wheelbarrows, hoes, and pots.
Jiri applauded Chikomba farmers for being able to hold a productive agricultural show despite the dry spill. He urged farmers to take agriculture seriously and to start preparing their land for the Pfumvudza program.
“I would like to congratulate all farmers gathered here today who managed to exhibit and show case their crops in this dry spill.
“I want to urge farmers to start preparing for the next season and start pfumvudza programs. Also farmers must share ideas so as to revive our Agriculture sector,” he said.
