MASVINGO – Retired Chief Superintendent Maxwell Mutasa (56) is no more.
He died on January 10, 2023 at Makurira Memorial Clinic and was buried at his Bonair Farm in Gutu on Friday.
Assistant Commissioner Shelton Dube in charge of administration in Masvingo Province represented Police at the funeral. He described Mutasa who received a 21-gun-salute as a hardworking and dedicated Policeman.
The burial was also attended by the wife of Officer Commanding Masvingo Commissioner David Mahoya and several serving and retired chief superintendents.
Mutasa retired from active service due to ill-health in June 2021 after serving the force for 32 years.
“Retired Chief Superintendent Mutasa was born on June 14, 1966 in Masvingo and joined the Police in 1989. After completing his training he worked in various posts in Harare specializing in fighting crime.
“Due to his hard work, he rose through ranks until he became a superintendent in 2006. He was transferred to Mash East and worked in Murehwa, Marondera and Chivhu.
“He was my deputy in Marondera together with retired Chief Superintended Gadzi at a time we were battling stock and copper cable thefts in Dema and Mahusekwa areas and he proved to be a diligent Police officer,” said Ass Comm Dube.
Family members who spoke at the burial described Mutasa as a family man who was devoted to fostering peace and unity in the family.
He is survived by three children and four grandchildren.
