SOTI SOURCE, GUTU – Bhakita, Roman Catholic Masvingo Diocese’s newest missions has received a donation of a 5Kv solar power system worth US$5 540.
The donation was made last week by Virginia Takaona-Holmes who won the system in a NetOne competition.
Father Bakuri who is the Priest-in-Charge received the solar power system on behalf of the church. The assistant-priest-in-charge is Father Hamadziripi.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Matthew Takaona who is a twin-brother to Virginia said the family decided to donate the solar system to Bhakita because the two priests at the mission did not have power after the old system broke down. He said the donation was also in honour of their late father, Augustine Tsikirai Takaona who was one of the founding chairpersons of Bhakita Mission and worked in the same area as an Agricultural Extension Worker.
Takaona said it was the duty of Catholics to look after their priests adding that it did not augur well for a church of such great faith to have struggling shepherds.
Scores of Catholics danced with joy at the small handover ceremony.
Father Bakuri thanked the Takaona family for the donation and said he will always have it and indeed all Bhakita members in his prayers. He urged other Catholics to emulate the gesture.
