Robbers hit again; Masvingo businessman loses US$21 000


MASVINGO – A gang of five robbers broke into Masvingo businessman Obey Wasarira’s house in Runyararo South West in the wee hours of Saturday and escaped with U$21 000 and four Samsung cellphones.

They severely assaulted Wasarira in front of his children until his wife Ruth Kumira released the money that was in the house to the invaders.

Masvingo Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the case to The Mirror.

Wasarira’s mother, Vester Ndere told The Mirror that the robbers hit at around 1am on Saturday and they were armed with pistols, axes, machetes and iron rods. They broke into the house using a machete and then went to the businessman’s bedroom

They hit Wasarira with logs on the back demanding money and the wife gave in and handed what they had.

The robbers slapped Wasarira’s wife and frightened the children.

Wasarira sustained deep cuts on head, below left eye as well as upper part of his left ear. He was referred to Zimre Park, 24Hour Private Hospital.

Police were called after the robbery and showed up at the scene around 3am.
