CHIPINGE – Chipinge Business Community Against Crime has resolved to fundraise for a patrol vehicle for their local Police as the station has no cars and crime is soaring in the area, Chipinge Times has been told.
So far, US4 510 has been raised, and complainants are providing transport for their cases to be investigated.
Ironically, Police stations have no vehicles at a time when the ruling Zanu PF has splashed millions of dollars on more than 500 trendy cars to be used in the party’s campaign.
Every party candidate is receiving a new state-of-the-art all-terrain vehicle. The same goes for the newly installed chiefs who are getting the latest Isuzu vehicles.
Big shops recently robbed at gunpoint in Chipinge include Gains Wholesalers, Delta and Grandrid.
Efforts to get a comment from national Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi were fruitless.
Chipinge Businessman Community chairperson, Godwin Mlambo popularly known as ‘JustOne’ said the business community is committed to the project.
“The business community is committed to this project. We had a meeting with the Police and decided to buy the force a vehicle to be used in fighting crime as robberies have soared.
“The response to the fundraising activities is pleasing. We had by yesterday raised USD 4,510, and this was just in four days,” he said.
Mlambo said a reputable law firm will provide legal services and all documentation required to ensure a transparent process,” he said.
Mlambo is deputised by Trymore Bhobho Chimbongoro, and Shubash Rana is the Treasurer.
Businesses, individuals, organisations, and churches willing to contribute should contact Rana at 0772520783.
