RENCO MINE – Some 2 000 Renco Mine workers have reportedly not been paid since May and they have complained that their families are starving.
Workers who spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity suspected that they were being punished by the company for going on a month-long industrial strike in April.
The workers staged the strike in protest against delayed salaries, poor working conditions including lack of safety clothes and a promise of a thirteenth cheque in December 2021 that is still not honoured.
Renco Mine manager Tsungirirai Dube refused to comment on the matter before switching off his mobile.
After the April strike Justice Lilian Hove ordered that the company engage a mediator to find a solution
“We feel that the company is defaulting on salary payments to punish workers for going on strike in April,” said a worker.
It is understood that Renco produces 80kgs of gold per month.https://masvingomirror.com
