GIBBO STADIUM – The long awaited Dynamos –Triangle PSL match had to be abandoned in Chiredzi on Tuesday night when referees briefly appeared and withdrew into the dressing room for good.
Sources attributed their withdrawal to the suspension of the PSL leadership.
Triangle FC fans expressed their anger over the matter and said this was poor planning and wasting of resources.
Triangle head coach Taurai Mangwiro directed all the questions to Premier Soccer League (PSL) officials when The Mirror approached him for questions.
“Please contact the PSL because what I heard is that the ZIFA board which was dissolved yesterday caused all this. We were ready for the match; both the teams were in the dressing rooms then the referees came and disappeared and the match failed to kickoff,” said Mangwiro.
The referees disappeared a few minutes before the match started.
Dynamos head coach Tonderai Ndiraya could not be reached for a comment and attempts to get hold of ZIFA hit. The board was dissolved on Tuesday by the Sports Recreational Committee (SRC) on allegations of misusing funds.
An SRC statement released dated 16 November 2021 advised of the cancellation of all matches for the day.
“This serves to advice that all the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match day 2 fixtures scheduled for this week have been postponed. This has been necessitated by the non-appearance of match officials at all the match venues today(Tuesday). However some of the match officials had travelled from various parts of the country and had logged in for team inspection only to withdrew their services before the commencement of team warm ups.
“The PSL is concerned about the lack of communication from ZIFA as we tried to engage them on the matter to no avail. We have hoped that a solution will be found,” reads the statement from the league’s governing board.
Elsewhere Ngezi Platinum which had visited Highlanders at Baobab stadium faced the same music, whilst Herentals could not face black Rhinos at National Sport stadium. Magaya’s Yadag FC also faced the same with ZPC Kariba.
