REDCLIFF-Cash-strapped Municipality of Redcliff is billing its goods and services in United State Dollars (USD) with effect from July 1, 2023, to contain hyperinflation and economic downturn in the country.
Redcliff Town Clerk Gilson Chakauya said outstanding bills should attract interest at 150 per cent per year in a statement in possession of The Mirror. He also said the bills are payable in ZWL at the prevailing interbank rate.
“All bills for goods and services shall be generated in United States Dollars (USD) with effect from July 1, 2023.
“All non-billable like plan approval fees, fines, water and sewer connections etc, shall be charged in United States Dollars and we encourage our stakeholders to comply. We are going to maintain the same as was being billed,” he said.
He said the tariffs and charges are consistent with the approved 2023 budget, and outstanding balances as of June 30, 2023, will be converted to the prevailing interbank rate.
Chakauya urged ratepayers to pay their outstanding balances before the USD billing system.
“All residents and clients are encouraged to settle their bills on time,” he added.
