MASVINGO – Ratidzo Zimcare Trust, a school for children with mental challenges is hosting an awareness campaign to teach the community on the importance of educating children with special needs.
School headmistress, Rufaro Chihava told The Mirror that the awareness campaign will be held next Thursday,
She said that they will hold a roadshow that will take them to suburbs including Pangolin, Sisk, Aphiri and Majange.
“The awareness is meant to cancel out stereotypes, stigmatization and labels as most people are ashamed of bringing their relatives who are challenged. Learners at Ratidzo are also involved in academics, extracurricular activities and agriculture among other practices.
“We are spreading the word so that people get to know that the children we have at the trust learn lifelong skills just like everyone else, they have even mastered growing crops like tomatoes, cabbage and spinach. They are also involved in sporting activities where they have reached the international levels. We have children who went to South Africa recently,” she said.
