Mutare – A Powertel employee was killed in a car accident at 4am on Saturday when a Mercedes Benz he was driving veered off the road before catching fire and burning to ashes.

A woman, the only passenger who was with Doyle Makwavarara (36) of Gukurahundi street, Murambi, Mutare in his car survived the accident with burnt injuries.

Sources said Makwavarara and Talent Chirume of Falcon Close, Greeside were coming from a beer drink when the accident happened.

Manicaland assistant Police spokesperson, Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the accident.

“On November 26, 2022 at 4am Makwavarara who is employed by Powertel Communications was driving a Mercedes Benz AFD7388 along Robert Mugabe way towards the Central Business District with one passenger on board,” said Chinyoka.

Makwavarara who is suspected to have been speeding lost control of the vehicle upon approaching the bridge next to Grants Service Station, hit the pavement on the edge of the road before bumping into a tree. The car caught fire before and burnt to ashes.

“A female passenger identified as Talent Chirume of Falcon Close, Greeside survived the accident. Makwavarara sustained head injuries, fractured legs and died on the spot, added Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
