KWEKWE – Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Professor Amon Murwira has applauded Polytechnics throughout the country for taking a lead in Education 5.0 philosophy and now engaging in many construction projects.
Speaking at Kwekwe Polytechnic 39th Graduation Ceremony on Thursday last week, Murwira applauded Polytechnics for taking theory into practice.
Kwekwe Poly principal Evans Musara mentioned some construction projects being undertaken by the college around Kwekwe District.
He said that the college is constructing a clinic in Sanyati Ward 5 where it is also training youths in construction and a doctor’s residence at Zhombe Mission Hospital.
The College is also one of those earmarked for the construction of Globe and Phoenix Primary Schools decommissioned after illegal miners started digging underneath classrooms.
“We have not deviated from our mandate of human capital development. We have actually gone an extra-mile to leave life-long structures in our communities as we transfer skills to vulnerable members of the society without asking for any Ordinary Level passes nor altering their way of life but rather impacting on their lives positively,” said Musara.
“We are pleased that our higher and tertiary education institutions have embraced the Heritage based education 5.0 philosophy, to this end our Polytechnics are leading the charge by constructing civic structures, setting up factories and creating employment opportunities,” said Murwira.
Meanwhile, 1 000 students graduated from various disciplines with 82% of the graduates drawn from engineering department.
