Police turn into time-keepers for Chamisa

MASVINGO–Police have become time-keepers for Nelson Chamisa as they keep interrupting his speeches at rallies and telling him to watch his time.
Chamisa addressed his supporters at Mawungwa Business Center in Gutu yesterday for less than 20 minutes because Police wanted him to wind up his rally. A senior Police officer kept nudging Chamisa’s aides to go up to the stage and remind him about the time.
Chamisa told his supporters more than three times that he was ending his address and leaving out a lot of things on the programme because Police wanted the rally to end. Such Police emphasis on time has never been seen in this country as rallies by the ruling party can run into the evening.
“I must end my speech because the Police are saying it is time up. I must leave and go to meet people in another place I cannot mention. My scheduled rally in Chivi has been cancelled by the Police,” said Chamisa.
He, however, remained courteous to the law enforcement agents saying that they were doing their work and that they should be respected.
“Police are doing their work and must be respected. We must wind up as instructed,” said Chamisa as he brought his address to an abrupt end, much to the disappointment of his supporters.
About 10 000 people attended the rally which was rocked by Zanu PF violence.
Efforts to get Police comment on tight timekeeping were futile.
