MASVINGO – Police yesterday arrested Mary Chisi, widely believed to be one of the largest suppliers of hard drugs in Masvingo and seized 420 g of crystal meth, The Mirror has confirmed.
Chisi, popularly known as Mai Shantel is alleged to be biggest supplier of hard drugs in Majange Suburb and is expected to appear in court tomorrow (Saturday).
Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwshe Dhewa confirmed the arrests, but could not give further details as investigations are still under way.
“Yes, I can confirm the arrest, but I cannot give further details at the moment because investigations are still ongoing,” said Dhewa.
An anti-drugs organisation which preferred to remain anonymous allegedly tipped Police about Chisi’s activities. Chisi was arrested at her residence at House number 2548/9 Mushandike Drive, Majange at around 5pm on Thursday and she is currently detained at Chikato Police Station.
Sources provided a long list of names of people also suspected of supplying drugs and they are Mai Shantel (Majange), Maki (Rujeko), Mai Washy (Rank) Stabo (Ex-soldier Aphiri), Choker (Aphiri) Mai Gwenzi (Vic Ranch) KD (1st Street Sisk), Saraz (Gomba) Lucky (Gomba) Save (Aphiri) Omega(Majange) GZU Campus Radio female presenter, Gomba (Runyararo West) Moyo (Majange car wash).
Anti-drug activists have accused some Police officers, ZNA and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services officers of protecting the drug dealers hence the slow progress in getting serious convictions.
Chisi is said to be married to a soldier at the 4 Brigade in Masvingo, while it is alleged that Saraz’s young brother is a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer at Masvingo Central Police station.
The lawlessness is said to be so bad that the drugs are also being sold to convicts at Mutimurefu Prison.
