Masvingo – Police has arrested a man who is a key witness in the disappearance of James Munyaradzi, a Gutu teacher who went missing on April 9, 2020.

They also recovered Munyaradzi’s stripped Toyota Fun Cargo in Tafara Mabvuku, Harare on Tuesday.

The suspect identified as Ernest Munenge was arrested in Gokwe on Friday night and was whisked to Chinhoyi where he is wanted for various crimes including car theft. He is also wanted in Karoi and Mutorashanga.

Police has also discovered that Munenge was using Tapiwa Lovender Kasira’s name after stealing his particulars. Kasira is a teacher from Manicaland.

Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa could not get the details of the case until the time of going to Press.

CID officers from Gutu took Munenge to Mabvuku on Tuesday where he showed them the shell of Munyaradzi’s car. Munyaradzi was last seen with Munenge in the same car on the day that he disappeared. Munenge allegedly claimed that he bought the car from Munyaradzi’s brother Joseph.

Munyaradzi’s brother Joseph has been summoned by the Police.

Munyaradzi who comes from Headman Makumbe’s area in Ward 8, Gutu was a teacher at various schools in Gutu including Tongogara Primary in Soti Source, Zvavahera, and Musasa. He was a school head at Nyashanje before he retired on medical grounds.

When he became critically ill, his brother Joseph hired Munenge to drive him around. Munyaradzi who now stayed alone at a house at Mpandawana was seen with his two brothers John and Joseph and Munenge on the day he went missing.

Sources said that John and Joseph returned home to Makumbe the same day, leaving their brother with Munenge. People in the neighbourhood said Munyaradzi packed his belongings from the house that he lodged on that same day and left with Munenge never to be seen again.

Police have for the last two years been trying to locate Munenge without success.

On Friday, Kasira’s sister who stays in Gokwe spotted Munenge and phoned her brother telling him that he had seen the man who stole his particulars. Kasira phoned the Police who arrested Munenge at Nembudziya where he was allegedly found driving another stolen vehicle. https://masvingomirror.com
