Ok accident: hit and run driver caught

MASVINGO – Police in Masvingo have arrested a Mucheke man in connection with a hit and run accident that claimed the life of popular taxi driver Simbarashe Mutonono (45) at Ok Supermarket on Thursday evening.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrest of Jonathan Hlaleleni (29) to The Mirror.
He said Police followed Hlaleleni’s Leyland truck after the accident and caught him along Charumbira Street in Mucheke.
“The vehicle was taken to the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) and Hlaleleni is in custody. We urge drivers to be attentive when they are driving in crowded or busy places,” said Dhewa.
Mutonono succumbed to head and chest pains at Masvingo Provincial Hospital on Friday morning. He plied the Rhodene – CBD route.
He was crossing from OK Supermarket to Engen Service Station when Hlaleleni ‘ran him over’.
