Plot thickens at Ndarama as fresh elections are ordered

Mirror Reporter

MASVINGO – The plot is getting thicker at Ndarama High School in Masvingo.
A new School Development Association (SDA) executive elected last month is already getting spanners thrown in its way after it resolved to audit US$600 000 borrowed from a Bank two years ago without the knowledge of the parents.
Although the school’s former chairman Ray Muzenda who served for 18 years recently told The Mirror that he was stepping down gracefully after losing the elections, it has since emerged that he approached the courts seeking to bar the new executive from the school.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s lawyer responded swiftly by asking Ndarama High head Oddy Matongo to withdraw the case and call for fresh elections.

The withdrawal of the case appears to be pulling the rug from under Muzenda’s feet as the move does not cause his reinstatement but a rematch at the elections.
In a letter written to Masvingo Schools District Inspector (DSI) Ishmael Chigaba on May 16, 2022, the acting Provincial Education Director (PED) Shylatte Mhike advised Ndarama to withdraw its opposition and set new elections.
“The legal advisor has notified us that they cannot oppose the application made by the applicant since the relief sought is in accordance with the law. That being the case, advise the head of Ndarama High School to have the Applicant withdraw the matter and ensure that fresh elections are conducted in terms of Statutory Instrument 379 of 1998,” reads the letter which is in the hands of The Mirror..

The elections were held under the School Development Committee constitution instead of the School Development Association Committee hence the election rerun.
The elections were graced by Ottilia Maramwidze, a Government schools inspector.
Meanwhile the school bursar Henry Chivhanga has offered to tender his resignation before the audit.
The court application was made by Muzenda’s deputy, Peter Mutisi.https://masvingomirror.com
