Plans afoot to turn Gutu Rural into a district hospital

Gutu – The Ministry of Health and Child Care is planning to turn Gutu Rural Hospital into a district hospital, Masvingo Provincial Medical Director Dr Amadeus Shamhu has said.

Currently the Reformed Church of Zimbabwe run Gutu Mission is the district’s main hospital. Speaking to The Mirror on Wednesday last week, Shamhu said Government is working to improve infrastructure at the medical institution so that it can be turned into district hospital. He said there are certain standards which need to be met and this includes construction of a maternity wing and an operating theatre among others. “We are improving Gutu Rural Hospital as a ministry so that it can be the districtmain referral medical institution.

“For us to achieve that there are certain developments which should be made and these include construction of a maternity wing and an operating theatre. The issue is still between our Ministry and the Public Works Department. There are no timelines yet for the development,” said Shamhu.
