MIDLANDS – The curtain comes down on tge Central Region Division One Soccer League today (Sunday 21 August, 2022) and all eyes are on TelOne and Sheasham which are the top two teams fighting to gain promotion into the Castle Lager Premiership.
The league which was supposed to end last weekend was shelved to allow Army sides Chapungu FC and Tongogara FC to play their catch up matches.
Matchday 25 saw two games involving army sides Chapungu and Tongogara postponed as they were preparing for the Defence Forces Day Celebrations which were scheduled for August 8 and 9.
Some of the two clubs’ players were involved in the Zimbabwe Defense Force’s select team which won by a solitary goal against the Botswana Defense Force’s team at a match played at National Sports Stadium last week.
The league games will be held weekend with Central Region Administrator Gift Nyapomwe confirming the developments to The Mirror.
“The games which were scheduled for last weekend to allow Chapungu FC and Tongogara FC to fulfil their match 25 fixtures. The two teams had to play their catch up matches which they did on Wednesday. The games will end this Sunday”, said Nyapombwe.
Sheasham FC tops the log standing with 57 points from 25 outings. TelOne FC are trailing the log leader by three points.
Vumbachikwe FC sits third with 51 points while Tongogara FC are occupying fourth position with 41 points with a game in hand and Dulibadzimu completes the top five with 39 points with also a game in hand.
Bishopstone who have been finding the going tough in the 14 team league are at the bottom of the table with 17 points from their 24 outings with a game in hand.
The last match day fixtures see log leaders Sheasham face Loss Control FC and TelOne has a date with the ‘Acid boys’ as Vumbachikwe FC are affectionately known.
TelOne FC’s Blessing Sahondo is the current league’s goal scorer with 15 goals.
