CHIKOMBA – ThePermanent Secretary for Mash East Provincial Affairs Tavabarira Kutamahufa has this morning told Chivhu Magistrates Court that Chikomba District Development Coordinator (DDC) has no role in receiving public money as he does not work in the accounts department.

He said that it was a crime therefore that he received money on behalf of a public office. Kutamahufa said this as he gave evidence in the trial of Chikomba DDC Michael Mariga for allegedly receiving US$60 bribe.

The Mirror was present during the trial presided over by Chivhu Provincial Magistrate Sam Chitumwa. The prosecutor is Corence Chimbadzwa.

Kutamahufa said that he has already suspended Mariga from work because of the offence. He said that Mariga is supposed to refer all payments to the accounts department.

He also said even the meeting that the DDC held with Dangwa Trust Initiative director Theresa Dangwa was not supposed to be held in Chikomba Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s office but in the council boardroom.

“Mariga committed an offence in line with his duties and that is why he is suspended from work. The fact that Chikomba RDC CEO this was a bribe. There is nothing that constitutes a meeting held at council because the DDC and the CEO cannot claim to be a committee hence they were not supposed to receive any money,” said Kutamahufa

Mariga was arrested last year after Dangwa tipped the Police that he was demanding bribe from her. Police set a trip and Mariga was arrested at Chikomba RDC offices soon after receiving marked US$60 which was in US$20 notes.

Mariga allegedly wanted the bribe as a condition for him to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between his office and Dangwa’s NGO. The trial continues tomorrow.https://masvingomirror.com
