Patch up potholes immediately – Ncube orders Kwekwe council

KWEKWE – Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube has ordered Kwekwe City Council and related Government departments to come up with a massive pothole patching programme that must be implemented immediately.
Zimbabwe’s roads are no longer about potholes but about driving through gullies.
He ordered the town clerk and District Development Co-ordinator to submit progress reports to his office weekly.
Speaking to Kwekwe City councilors, heads of Government departments and residents on Friday, Ncube said the program was necessary to improve the road network.
“We need immediate intervention to address the issue of potholes Kwekwe must rollout a clear pothole patching programme.
“The infrastructure and utilities Thematic Working Group chaired by Ministry of Transport (Provincial Roads Engineer) must immediately convene with city of Kwekwe and all relevant private entities to mobilize resources for pothole patching.
“The ERRP provincial technical committee must immediately visit all local authorities and proffer advice on the implementation of the program.

“District Development Coordinators and town clerks must submit weekly reports to my office on the pothole patching program, “ said Ncube.
He accused miners using their heavy vehicles of damaging roads
“Heavy mining trucks and machinery are damaging our road network which is not designed for such traffic. We need collective responsibility to deal with the problems of our roads.
“Kwekwe District is endowed with abundant mineral resources. However, it is sad that sewer lines, buildings and road network is being destroyed by illegal miners,” he said.
