MASVINGO – Pamushana High School has won the Masvingo schools provincial drama competitions held at Victoria High School yesterday and is representing the province at the national showdown set for Mutare tomorrow.
Another Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) school Chibi High came second with hosts Victoria High taking third place.
The competitions ran under the theme: The Threat.
The dramas resolved around drug and substance abuse and human actions in relation to climate change.
National Association for Secondary School Heads (NASH) vice chairperson Christopher Shiri and several committee members attended the competitions.
Other schools that competed are Mutendi (Masvingo), Mkwasine Chiredzi), St Anthony’s (Bikita), Choverere (Mwenezi) and Dewure (Gutu) high schools.
Pamushana head of drama department Simbarashe Mlambo said this is their maiden appearance and they are elated.
“It’s our maiden appearance and now we are going to represent Masvingo at the Nationals which is quite an experience.
“I can’t promise that we are going for a win but I can just say whatever happens we are trying our best,” he said.
Nash head in charge of Debate and Public Speaking Lincoln Mlambo said drama not only entertains but educates.
“Each year’s theme has a solid reason behind it and this year’s theme aims to teach and warn youth and the community at large of the effects of certain decisions in life.
“Drama showcases talent but we also regard it like all other sporting activities while trying to portray that it’s not only ball games that are important and can earn one a source of livelihood,” he said.
