Oneness band wins Masvingo Chibuku Road to Fame

MASVINGO–A Mashava based Afro-fusion band, Oneness has won the Masvingo province Chibuku Road to Fame competitions held at Chihambakwe Bar in Triangle on Saturday.

The band walked away with US$2 500 prize money and the sole ticket to represent the province at the national competitions set for October 1, 2022 at Glamis Arena in Harare.

Chibuku Road to Fame is a Delta Beverages sponsored band competition that began in 2001. It is organized by the Zimbabwe National Arts Council (NAC). 

Oneness will be looking forward to winning the national competition which was last won by another Mashava based Afro-fusion band, Identity led by Munashe Zhira in 2019. Chibuku Road to Fame had a two year hiatus from 2020-2021 owing to COVID-19. 

Doctors band from Gutu which played Rhumba came second and walked away US$1 500 richer, Masvingo’s Orchestra Mabanan’ana came third and received US$1 000 prize money.

Chiredzi’s Jexus Rutsu band from Chiredzi came fifth, Zaka Moto sixth, Benett Forward Xitakataka from Chiredzi came seventh with Area sounds from Mwenezi on ninth. Masvingo Teachers’ College Gango band came last.

The other seven bands received US$ 500 consolation prize each.

Oneness band leader Peter Penduka said his band is ecstatic after winning the provincial competition and is now rehearsing for the national competition.
