MASVINGO – Leading insurance, savings and banking group Old Mutual hosted a financial literacy training indaba for businesswomen in Masvingo on Thursday at a local lodge.
The indaba had presentations from the Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Association (ZCIEA), Old Mutual, Network of the African Business Women and New Faces New Voices.
Over 90 businesswomen in the formal and informal sectors attended the indaba.
ZCIEA President Davidzo Muhandavaka told The Mirror that most women have the capability to make money but have no idea how to invest it. She said her association trains interested women on financial literacy.
“We noticed the ability of women to make money but they have no idea of how to make use of it and that is why we are holding this workshop. Women from different divides are in attendance including those who already have established businesses, startups and those who want to start businesses. They will get valuable lessons on how to handle their finances.
“Our Association provides guidance to everyone including men, youth and the disabled. We also train them to get involved in hairdressing, chicken breeding, agriculture and retail among others,” she said.
Illeny Muwanza, the Chairperson of the Network of African Business Women under the Graca Machel Trust said women need such lessons in order for them to run successful businesses.
“It is a need for every woman to be financially independent. We get to know how to make money and how to use it,” she said.
