Nyaungwe Arts wins Chibuku NeShamwari

MASVINGO – Nyaungwe Arts from Murehwa, Mashonaland East formed early this year has won the 2024 national edition of the Delta Beverages sponsored Chibuku neShamwari. The competition took place at Mucheke Stadium on Saturday.
The 16 member group playing the Jerusarema Mbende dance walked away with US$15 000 prize money.
Culture Warriors from Harare came second and received US$10 000 prize money.
Dapuraunanzva Arts Ensemble from Manicaland came third and received US$7 500.
Nyaungwe Arts stage manager Wilfred Muchapondwa told The Mirror that the group was formed early this year.
He said they are going to invest the money in several agriculture projects they have lined up.
“We are happy. We play the Jerusarema Mbende dance. Our group has 16 members and today only 14 went on stage. We formed the group early this year and this is our debut performance.
“We agreed as a group that we are going to invest the money in several projects as fish farming, chicken project and a pig project. We also train other community members,” he said.
Chibuku Neshamwari is sponsored by Delta Corporation through its Chibuku brand and is organized by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and Zimbabwe National Traditional Dances Association (ZNTDA).
This year’s edition ran under the theme: Tamba Tione, Gida Sibone!
The festivities ran until close to midnight with Tocky Vibes, Killer T and Jah Prayzah entertaining revelers.
