KWEKWE – Newly elected Redcliff Municipality Ward 3 Zanu PF Councillor Christine Sigauke was sworn in at the Civic Center on Monday.
She replaces the late councillor and Mayor Clayton Masiyatsva who died in January.
Sigauke contested against independent candidate Tinei Siziba in the by-election held on April 6.
She promised to work with residents and rate payers to improve service delivery.
Kwekwe District Development Coordinator (DDC) Fortune Mupungu said the local authority now has six female and six male councillors during the swearing in ceremony.
“Redcliff Municipality has achieved the envisaged 50/50 gender parity and I congratulate them for that milestone. I think they are the first local authority in Zimbabwe to achieve that milestone. It is indeed a big achievement for the district in particular and women in general. It is something that women should celebrate,” he said.
The local authority has a male mayor Vincent Shangwa Masiiwa who is deputised by a female councillor Fortunate Makawa.
