Nemamwa cops assaulted over braai meat

MASVINGO – Two men went berserk and assaulted some Police officers at Nemanwa Growth Point in Masvingo over meat on a braai stand.

Joseph Mugabe (23) of Matava Village under Chief Mugabe, Masvingo and Trust Mlambo (25) of Kuwadzana in Harare appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Farai Gwitima facing charges of undermining Police after they allegedly assaulted Constable Chifamba and other cops.

On September 23, 2022 at around 8:30 pm Constable Chifamba, Assistant inspector Zambuko and Constable Mpofu were at Ruchengere Kitchen at Nemamwa where they were braaing pork. Mugabe came to the braai stand and tried to pick a piece of meat with his unwashed hands and he was dissuaded by Constable Chifamba from doing so.

The accused became violent, insulted Chifamba and poked his fingers onto his lips. He hit the Police officer on the face and sprinkled beer him on his face. He denigrated the cops as mere constabularies who had no power to arrest him.

Other Police officers tried to handcuff him but he went on to grab Chifamba and Mlambo also punched the complainant demanding Mugabe’s freedom.

The two also assaulted Inspector Zambuko and other officers. Members of the public helped the Police to arrest the suspects.

Tarisai Muvengi represented the State.

Magistrate Gwitima remanded the matter to later date for continuation of trial.
