NEC for construction holds training workshop

MASVINGO- The National Employment Council (NEC) for the Construction Industry has trained employers and employees on labour laws and functions of worker committees.
The training workshop was held at Flamboyant, a Regency Group Hotel on Friday last week.
Global Tech Human Capital Facilitator Shadreck Domingo, Construction Industry NEC Designated Agent Charity Sithole and representatives from construction companies from Masvingo, Zvishavane, Chiredzi including Chiefen Engineering, Chavakwa Chadomumhu, Jadecon, Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA), OT Twin Construction, Boverm, Turnstone Construction, EG Construction and Brick and Block Construction attended the workshop.

Domingo said the workshop was to train employees and employers on their duties and obligations.
“This training workshop educates employers and employees about their duties and obligations to the industry. It offers assistance to companies in terms of their human resources, industrial relations consultancy and advising companies if they have issues among themselves,” said Domingo.
Attendees received training on safety, discipline at work, fundamental rights, and functions of work councils.
Employee representatives raised concern over the increasing number of informal sector members not remitting dues to the NEC.
They said the informal players disregard the safety and quality standards and are flooding the market with cheap and substandard bricks, construction materials and even finished buildings.
Employees raised concern over the lack of modern equipment, which makes their products and services uncompetitive and also expressed concern with how local authorities take time to inspect their work.
