CHIKOMBA — The national schools cadets’ chess championships are currently underway at Liebenberg High School and Runyararo Primary School in Chikomba district.
Queens of Chivhu Chess Club coach, Godknows Dembure told The Mirror that the tournament features Under 8, 10, 12 and 14 players. The tournament kicked off yesterday and ends on Sunday.
He said the tournament is meant to select players for the national chess team and players for the 2024 cadets’ chess championship and Youth Chess Championship.
“We are hosting this years’ national schools cadets’ chess championships to select the national chess players. The championship is an initiative of the Zimbabwe Chess Federation to select the best chess players from the Under 8 to Under 14 categories. The championship is also meant to develop chess from the grassroots and for talent identification,” said Dembure
