MASVINGO – MDC T president, Douglas Mwonzora was at Gutu Magistrate Courts last week where he represented a party official who was facing charges of violating Section 186 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act).
Innocent Bveketu who is MDC T’s senior representative in Gutu District was found guilty of the charge and was ordered to pay a fine of US$200 or serve six months in jail. The case was before Magistrate Edwin Marecha.
The State case was that Bveketu’s 14-year-old daughter went missing and in the process of looking for her, he made threats to a 13-year-old neigbour demanding information about her whereabouts.
The mother of the child reported the matter to Police resulting in the arrest of Bveketu.
The matter was reported to the authorities, leading to Bveketu’s arrest. In June, he paid bail amounting to US$100 at the Gutu Magistrate Court.
In his defense, Bveketu’s legal counsel argued that the accused’s actions stemmed from a desire to locate his minor daughter, whom he suspected to be at the complainant’s residence, emphasizing that no physical harm was inflicted upon the complainant.
Bright Bati appeared for the state.
